All content contained within the NHS Health Check mega menu on NHS Choices is available to upload onto local authority websites via a syndication feed. This negates the need for in-house technical and content development for organisations who would like to create an online presence of their local NHS Health Check programme. The syndicated feed also allows embedded videos and hyperlinks to tools and apps, improving the opportunity for visitors to interact and engage with your website. You can find more information about the NHS Choices syndicated content here.
There are multiple options available to syndicate NHS Health Check content, which includes API and Widgets. To find out what option is most appropriate for your website, see FAQs listed below.
To register your interest, complete the online registration form. Our colleagues from the NHS Choices syndication team will contact you to go through the process of syndicating content onto your website.
For local authorities who want to offer a range of lifestyle related content to support their NHS Health Check pages, they will be able to access over 1,000 videos and 50 interactive tools to embed on their website via syndicated NHS Choices Live Well content. To find out more about what is available on NHS Choices Live Well, visit here.
We would like to thank Bracknell Forest Council for being the first test-site to trial our widget. To view the test widget, visit their dedicated NHS Health Check page here.
For all enquiries email nhshealthchecks.mailbox@phe.gov.uk
Syndication allows approved partners to pull content from the NHS Choices website via a feed, free of charge. This means that any articles, pages or the whole NHS Health Check section of the website will remain up-to-date, regardless of any changes made to the content.
API allows the content to be displayed within the user's website and positioned within your local authorities' existing template. This requires someone with technical skills to implement this tool.
A widget makes embedding content incredibly easy, with very little technical knowledge required. The widget allows you to add content and embedded videos to your site in predefined easy packages. All you need is access to your content management system (CMS) in order to add the widget.
All you need to do is seek approval from your in-house website management team and register your local authority to gain access to the tool. To register, complete the online registration form. Our colleagues from the NHS Choices syndication team will talk you though the process of syndicating content onto your website.
No. The NHS Health Check content is supplied in a clinically approved format and editing or changing the content would invalidate this.
No. The NHS Health Check widget has been designed to reflect the branding and styling of the NHS Health Check content, and as such is supplied as is.
You can edit the <HEAD> section of your document. You may need to contact your Content Management System provider, and ask them to allow access to the <HEAD> section on the page you wish to add the widget to. If this is not possible, there is a workaround, which involves adding the entirety of the code to the <BODY> section. Please note that we cannot guarantee the success of this, and will be unable to support any implementations achieved in this manner. To consider this method, contact the NHS Choices syndication team here, to guide you through the process.
Yes. However, the widget uses the language JavaScript, which can be turned off by the user in their web browser. If the user has JavaScript turned off, no content will be displayed.
The widget has been configured to work in all modern browsers. We support all instances of Chrome, Firefox and Safari, but the widget may not work on anything below IE7.
The vast majority of images used across the NHS Health Check content are supplied by a third party. Therefore NHS Choices are unable to pass them across, as this would break the terms and conditions of the supplier.
