Local Government Association publish Community Pharmacy report

Public health became the responsibility of local government when it transferred from the NHS to councils in April 2013. This means that councils have responsibility for commissioning public health services as part of their duty to take steps to improve the health of people in their area. Some of these services will involve the supply of medicines and appliances using NHS services delivered through community pharmacies.

This briefing for councillors and officers describes the role of community pharmacy in public health and explains councils’ role and duties.

The document is available for download from the LGA website here.
